So, last week we celebrated all that was great and good during 2017 on the club scene in Ibiza. This week, we cast our minds back to balmy days spent at blissful beachclubs, and hottest new venues on the island. Ibiza may be the party capital of the world, and, of course, we all love to party, but there´s also plenty of opportunity for relaxation, indulgence and sophistication to be found here on the White Isle.
So let’s begin with the beachclubs. We at Ibiza Unlocked can’t think of a better way to spend yet another perfect Ibizan day than lounging on a sumptuous daybed, satiating our appetites with fabulous food and a few cheeky cocktails, whilst the DJ´s subtle soundtrack adds to the ambience. Or perhaps you prefer a more upbeat beachfront spot, where the emphasis is on the pool party action? Whatever floats your boat, there are an abundance of fabulous beachclubs, the only problem we had is which one to choose each day. Here is a handpicked selection of our favourites from 2017.
On the party scene, Ocean beach has been ruling the roost in San Antonio since it opened in 2012 and has been attracting a glamorous, young and enthusiastic crowd with flock to the colourful venue to enjoy the unrivalled anything goes atmosphere, upbeat pool party vibe and the finest tunes from resident DJ´s such as Tom Crane. Our favourite fiesta in 2017 was the Friday Pool Party, which saw a sublime soundtrack from DJs Grant Collins and Sam Dungate keep the tempo rising and the crowds dancing. Ocean Beach has exceeded all expectations and become quite simply the place to see and be seen in San An.
Over at the Blue Marlin, which many people recognise as the most famous beachclub on Ibiza, they retained their uber glamorous vibe, as celebrities from across the globe and the movers and shakers of the island returned once more to wine, dine and dance at this most iconic of venues. We shook our stuff with the island legend Pete Tong, who made a welcome return to the daytime party scene with his Sunday Sessions, drawing in a energetic crowd with his inimitable energy and of course sublime selection of music!
And let us not forget about fabulous Formentera, Ibiza´s little sister, with her azure waters and more tranquil vibe. On this most idyllic of island, just a few nautical miles away from Ibiza, you will find the boho chic beach club Beso Beach. Small but perfectly designed, Beso has become one of the hottest spots to dine, drink and dance the day away. The eclectic decor and the view over the turquoise waters are simply breathtaking, and the carefully curated menu is a diners dream. Beso Beach also attracts a lively crowd, and the tempo starts to rise after the second lunch sitting, when the resident DJ raises the tempo from chillout tunes to more upbeat tracks, getting everyone dancing on the tables this summer! We look forward to many more long lazy days at Beso Beach in 2018.
Ibiza´s newest hotspots
2017 saw an influx of fabulous new venues throw open their doors and enrich Ibiza´s beach bar and culinary repertoire. A few of our favourites include Aiyanna, the colourful new beachclub brought to you by the owners of Amante, which is already an Ibizan institution. Bringing with them their wealth of knowledge and innate understanding of Ibiza and her guests needs and desires, Aiyanna is fresh, welcoming and the food is simply divine. Gracing the shoes of Cala Nova, the vibrant Guatemalan parasols inject a veritable kaleidoscope of colour into the subtle whitewashed decor.
In Playa dén Bossa, Tatel has been the talk of the town, a luxurious fine dining destination which caused quite a stir amongst the island´s foodies when it opened in May. Founded by Abel Matutues, alongside Enrique Iglesias, Rafa Nadal and Pau Gasol, their mission is to redefine fine dining in Ibiza, and if this season is anything to go by they are on their way to achieving this goal.
And last but by no means least, not definitively a newcomer, but big congratulations to an island institution which relaunched itself in spectacular style this summer. El Clodenis in San Rafael has been a favourite venue on Ibiza for over a decade and boasts an eclectic history, however this year, the restaurant enjoyed a sensational transformation, reinventing itself in true Ibiza style as a pop up destination, combining culinary innovation, perfectly blended with astounding visual art and musical talent. Offering a new and exciting platform for local and international artists to display their exceptional works, we were quite simply blown away by the cutting edge and forward thinking exhibitions and unique vibe.
So, to conclude, Ibiza continues to evolve, embracing the new with the old, constantly adapting to demand, in the way only this mystical island can. As we bid a fond farewell to 2017, we have nothing but high expectations for the future, and Ibiza Unlocked will be keeping our finger firmly on the pulse of the beating heart of the island we live, love and work on as we move into the next chapter
