It’s not often that we at Ibiza unlocked are lost for words, but a recent experience certainly left us somewhat speechless! Having been invited by Deep Roots Catering to a private lunch at an idyllic countryside location, we were unsure of what to expect. And indeed, we were most pleasantly surprised at what we found.

Hidden away in the campo near to San Carlos, Ca’n Pere Mussona was Ibiza’s first organic certified farm, and it now plays host to the divine culinary offerings served by Deep Roots Catering.

Having enjoyed unrivalled success for over 10 years in Palma, Mallorca with a team headed up by Kevin Becker, in conjunction with Michelin starred chef Marc Fosh, this year sees the arrival of this innovative catering service to the island of Ibiza.

Under the helm of Oriol de Mesa, alongside Emma Sutherland, who both bring with them a wealth of experience in event management, planning and logistics, this, combined with the gastronomic prowess of chef Luciano  di Clemente bring a whole new level of catering to Ibiza.

And if our experience was anything to go by, Ibiza has a strong contender for the crown of catering here on the island. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and shown around the charming farmlands, and then shown to the alfresco dining are for a welcoming cocktail.

A simply heavenly selection of canapes, some of which looked too good to actually eat were served to get our taste buds tingling. Amongst our favourites were the Gorgonzola and apricot sandwich and olive macarons with artisanal Ibicencan sobrasada, however, the real marvel of the selection had to be the goats cheese and truffle “stones”, so divinely created that they truly looked like polished pebbles, with a flavour so rich and intense, ingenious!

Moving to the dining table, elegantly set with perfectly mismatching plates and crockery and a view over the picturesque farm fields and vegetable garden, we were served some extremely fine wine as we awaited the next courses. And believe us, they were worth waiting for!

Starters of yellow Gazpacho with local red prawns, couscous and mango were accompanied beautifully by marinated Sea Bass flavoured with lemon, fennel and green apple, a winning duo.

For the main course, we were treated to the most succulent braised Ibicenco lamb, slow cooked to perfection with fresh farm herbs and garlic, and served with three different types of salads, all sourced from the rich lands of the farm.

We didn’t think we could manage another mouthful, but when presented with a dessert of a traditional island style flao and a colourful concoction of sable with fresh seasonal fruit mousse, how could we refuse?

Every dish was beautifully presented, Oriol explained in detail the ingredients and cooking methods and the tastes and colours of every plate was truly exceptional. Even one of the island’s leading magazine editors who was also a guest, a notorious foodie, was impressed, no mean feat!

A truly memorable experience, and one which we highly recommend. Deep Roots will cater for your every need, with their motto being rooted in the belief that, “We are only as good as our last event,” their culture centers on creativity, planning and flawless execution.
